Effect pedals can be attached as usual with Velcro or DualLock.
In addition, Looperwerk pedalboards with the X-Grid Surface allow to screw many effects directly to the pedalboard using this mounting kit.
This kit is compatible with most effect pedals with a die-cast aluminum enclosure - if the base plate is attached with inch screws, which is the case with a majority of effect pedals. Every pedalboard comes with a mounting kit for one effect pedal, so that you can take your time and try out which of your effect pedals this mounting method is compatible with.
Most setups will use a combination of the various mounting methods - on my personal pedalboard, 12 out of 15 effect pedals are screwed to the pedalboard, which significantly reduces the risk of an effect pedal accidentally coming loose. When screwed tightly to the pedalboard, the effect pedals don't wobble back and forth and there is no glue that can get soft in the hot trunk of the car or anything like that.
How-to
To mount an effect pedal you need two set screws, two wing nuts, two insulators and a piece of foam rubber that is slightly smaller than the base of the effect (so that it does not cover any screws of the base plate).
Remove two diagonally opposite screws from the base plate of the effect (e.g. top left and bottom right).
Check whether the set screws have the same threads as the original screws. The easiest way to do this is to place both of them next to each other and check whether the turns of the threads interlock.
Screw the set screws into the holes of the removed screws. This is usually done by hand, but if you encounter slight resistance, you can help with the included hex key. Don't use too much force, the thread may not be compatible after all.
Attach the foam rubber with some adhesive tape - this can also be done with regular adhesive tape if you form an "O" out of it with the adhesive side on the outside.
Position the effect pedal on the pedalboard - one set screw should go through a rising slot /, the other through a falling slot \.
An X in the pattern on the pedalboard provides both a rising and falling slot.
Place the insulators over the set screws from below (so that the thinner end of the insulator protrudes into the slot).
If the set screw is in the middle of an "X", I recommend using one of the included washers between the insulator and the pedalboard.
Attach the effect pedal with the wing nuts - these should only be tightened hand-tight, a lot of force is not necessary to secure the effect pedal against slipping.
Tip: If you are attaching multiple effect pedals next to each other, it is best to remove the original screws alternately (i.e. top left, bottom right, and for the following effect pedal top right, bottom left, creating a zigzag pattern).
