The new Patchbox Duo is extremely compact and yet full of features.

Of course, it can also be used as a normal 2-channel patchbox (for example, as input and output of the pedalboard), both channels are then feed-throughs for mono or stereo signals - or as an insert box (to temporarily insert effectpedals into the signal path).

With the mini-switches, however, it can also be configured for a variety of other uses, for example, two access points can be placed in the signal path at which external effect pedals can be looped in - and much more, some setup examples below.

Setup examples

Use as input and output of the pedalboard

Any mono or stereo signals can be routed through both channels (no speaker-level signals).
If a channel is used as input for a mono signal, the corresponding mini-switch can be set to ON - if the external black socket is not occupied, the channel and thus the input of the pedalboard is then muted, which prevents interference noise.
For output channels, the corresponding mini-switch should be set to OFF.

The 9V feed-through is not used in this case, so the middle mini-switch has no function.

Use as an insert box (guest loop)

An insert box allows you to insert external effect pedals in the middle of the signal path without having to unplug the pedalboard - either for testing purposes or because you are only using some effect pedals temporarily. Many users also use them in the studio to quickly and easily try out different effect pedals.

The effect pedals on the pedalboard are connected to the black sockets. If the white sockets are empty, the signal is routed directly to the next effect pedal in the signal path; if they are used, the signal first goes through the additional effect pedal.

The two power sockets (standard size, 5.5 x 2.1 mm) also allow you to route power (9-18V DC, center negative) through the patchbox, so you don't have to worry about the power supply if you want to add new effect pedals to the signal path.

Use to bring send and return from the back of an amp to the front.

With most amps, the effects loop is located at the rear, but with this patchbox you can move it to a more easily accessible place - great if you have several amps and don't want to unplug cables in the back when changing amps.
Because the two white sockets connect when they are both empty, the amp can still be used without effect pedals in the effects loop.

The 9V feed-through is not used in this case and the black sockets are permanently in use, so the mini switches have no function.

Advanced Setup Examples

Insert cables are required for these examples. Suitable insert cables are, for example, "EBS ICY-30" or "Rockboard Flat Patch Y-Splitter".

Use as input of the pedalboard and as insert box.

When using insert cables, only one channel is needed for use as an insert box, the other channel can be used, for example, as an input with mute function.

For the function of the middle mini-switch, it is recommended to use the channel to the left of the Looperwerk logo as an insert box (as in the picture).

Mini switches

Miniswitches 1 and 3:
Activate the Insert / Mute function for the black sockets - if a black socket is an output (e.g. to the amp), the corresponding mini switch should be deactivated.

Miniswitch 2:
Connects the grounds of the signal and 9V feed-through, this can prevent (very rarely occurring) noise caused by the power supply. In most cases, the position of the switch makes no difference.
In the following setup examples, a recommendation is shown in each case; depending on the setup, it may be worthwhile to try out the other switch position as well.

Use as a wireless bypass and insert box.

When using insert cables, only one channel is needed for use as an insert box; a wireless receiver can be connected to the other channel with the help of another insert cable, which is muted as soon as a guitar is connected to the corresponding black socket. Great as a backup or if you want to play spontaneously via cable.

For the function of the middle mini-switch, it is recommended to use the channel to the left of the Looperwerk logo as the insert (as in the picture).

Two access points can also be placed in the signal path.

For example, you can place one access point in the signal path before the amp and another in the signal path in the amp's effects loop, and then loop in external effect pedals either before the amp or in the effects loop - either to try out where they sound better, or because you sometimes loop in distortion and sometimes reverb effects - or you want to control either the volume or the distortion level with an external volume pedal.
